e535b372ea feat: Support combining multiple prebuilt configurations (#2295)
## Description
This PR introduces support for merging multiple prebuilt configurations.
To ensure compatibility, the following restrictions apply:

- No Naming Collisions: Configurations cannot share duplicate names for
any resources (Tools, Sources, Toolsets, Auth Services, etc.).
- Shared Environment Variables: If multiple sources rely on the same
environment variable, they must share the same value; unique values for
the same variable are not supported

## Usage Examples

### Successful Initialization

You can load multiple prebuilt configurations by either repeating the
--prebuilt flag or by providing a comma-separated list.

**Option 1:** Multiple Flags
```
./toolbox --prebuilt alloydb-postgres --prebuilt alloydb-postgres-admin
```

**Option 2:** Comma-Separated Values
```
./toolbox --prebuilt alloydb-postgres,alloydb-postgres-admin
```

### Initialization Failure (Resource Conflict)

If two or more configurations define a resource with the same name (such
as a Tool or Source, etc.), the server will fail to start and display a
conflict error.

```
./toolbox --prebuilt alloydb-postgres --prebuilt cloud-sql-mysql
2026-01-13T11:14:50.758121799Z INFO "Using prebuilt tool configurations for: alloydb-postgres, cloud-sql-mysql"
2026-01-13T11:14:50.764578167Z ERROR "resource conflicts detected:\n  - tool 'execute_sql' (file #2)\n  - tool 'list_active_queries' (file #2)\n  - tool 'get_query_plan' (file #2)\n  - tool 'list_tables' (file #2)\n\nPlease ensure each source, authService, tool, toolset and prompt has a unique name across all files"
```

17b41f6453 feat: add allowed-hosts flag (#2254)
## Description

Previously added `allowed-origins` (for CORs) is not sufficient for
preventing DNS rebinding attacks. We'll have to check host headers.

To test, run Toolbox with the following:
```
go run . --allowed-hosts=127.0.0.1:5000
```

Test with the following:
```
// curl successfully
curl -H "Host: 127.0.0.1:5000" http://127.0.0.1:5000
// will show Invalid Host Header error
curl -H "Host: attacker:5000" http://127.0.0.1:5000
```

a4506009b9 feat(bigquery): Make credentials scope configurable (#2210)
## Description

This change addresses the ask where the user may want to use custom
scopes. For instance, the default scope (bigquery) falls short from
running sql that utilizes integration with other google products, such
as Drive, Vertex AI, Cloud Run etc. With this change the user would be
able to configure custom scopes depending on their use case.

The custom scopes can be configured in the tools.yaml file, e.g.:

```yaml
sources:
  bigquery-source:
    kind: "bigquery"
    project: ${BIGQUERY_PROJECT}
    location: ${BIGQUERY_LOCATION:}
    useClientOAuth: ${BIGQUERY_USE_CLIENT_OAUTH:false}
    scopes:
      - "https://www.googleapis.com/auth/bigquery"
      - "https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive"
```

and if the [bigquery prebuilt
config](https://github.com/googleapis/genai-toolbox/blob/main/internal/prebuiltconfigs/tools/bigquery.yaml)
is being used, then it can be set in the environment variable as well:

```shell
$ export BIGQUERY_SCOPES="https://www.googleapis.com/auth/bigquery,https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive"
```

5788605818 feat: Support combining prebuilt and custom tool configurations (#2188)
## Description

This PR updates the CLI to allow the --prebuilt flag to be used
simultaneously with custom tool flags (--tools-file, --tools-files, or
--tools-folder). This enables users to extend a standard prebuilt
environment with their own custom tools and configurations.

### Key changes

- Sequential Loading: Load prebuilt configurations first, then
accumulate any specified custom configurations before merging.

- Smart Defaults: Updated logic to only default to tools.yaml if no
configuration flags are provided.

- Legacy Auth Compatibility: Implemented an additive merge strategy for
authentication. Legacy authSources from custom files are merged into the
modern authServices map used by prebuilt tools.

- Strict Validation: To prevent ambiguity, the server will throw an
explicit error if a legacy authSource name conflicts with an existing
authService name (e.g., from a prebuilt config).

5e43630907 feat(prebuilt/cloud-sql): Add clone instance tool for cloud sql (#1845)
## Description

---
This pull request adds a new tool, cloud-sql-clone-instance, which
enables cloning a Cloud SQL instance from the toolbox using the Cloud
SQL Admin API. The tool supports both standard cloning and point-in-time
recovery (PITR). It also supports specifying preferred zones for cloned
instances via the preferredZone and preferredSecondaryZone fields.

Key Features:
Instance Cloning: The tool allows you to clone a Cloud SQL instance by
specifying the source and destination instance names.
Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR): By providing a pointInTime timestamp, you
can create a clone of an instance as it existed at a specific moment.
High Availability Configuration: The preferredZone and
preferredSecondaryZone parameters allow you to configure the cloned
instance for high availability.

7a9cc63376 feat(tool/mssql): Set default host and port for MSSQL source (#1943)
## Description

This pull request resolves issue
[#36](https://github.com/gemini-cli-extensions/sql-server/issues/36) by
introducing default connection parameters for the MSSQL prebuilt tool.
If a user does not specify a host or port, the tool will now default to
localhost:1433

**Changes Implemented**
The modification is in internal/prebuiltconfigs/tools/mssql.yaml, where
the host and port fields now include default values:
host: ${MSSQL_HOST:localhost}
port: ${MSSQL_PORT:1433}
This configuration allows the tool to function using the defaults, but
users can still set the MSSQL_HOST or MSSQL_PORT environment variables
to override them.

**Validation Process**
Validated changes by running the toolbox against a Microsoft SQL Server
instance hosted in a Docker container.

- **Database Setup:** A testdb database containing a products table was
initialized.
- **CLI Configuration:** The ~/.gemini/settings.json file was updated to
point to my local toolbox build.
- **Tool Launch:** The UI was started using go run . --prebuilt mssql
--ui
- **Testing:** Confirmed the connection logic by testing two scenarios.
One with the environment variables set and one without (to confirm the
default logic).

**1.** Default Value Connection: For this test, the MSSQL_HOST and
MSSQL_PORT environment variables were not defined. The application
correctly utilized the new default values (localhost:1433) to connect to
the testdb.

src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/bacfc9bf-8b35-42e1-ad53-4af3aef27125"
/>

**2.** Explicit Variable Connection: For the second test, MSSQL_HOST and
MSSQL_PORT were set to specific values. The application correctly
prioritized these variables over the new defaults and connected
successfully.
<img width="2175" height="1144" alt="Screenshot 2025-11-12 6 37 02 PM"
src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/61254849-211d-41f4-8c7d-ff92cf64a51c"
/>

Result: Both connection methods were verified by executing the
list_tables prebuilt tool via the UI. In each scenario, the tool
successfully retrieved the UserDetails table, confirming the changes.

862868f284 feat: add allowed-origins flag (#1984)
Support `allowed-origins` flag to allow secure deployment of Toolbox.
Current Toolbox is **insecure by default**, which allows all origin
(`*`). This PR also updated docs to notify user of the new
`allowed-origins` flag in the Cloud Run, kubernetes, and docker
deployment docs.

This PR was tested manually by mocking a browser access:
1. Created a HTML file with Javascript fetch named
`malicious-client.html`:
```
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
    <title>Malicious CORS Test</title>
</head>
<body>
    <h1>Attempting to access API at http://127.0.0.1:5000/mcp</h1>
    <p>Check the **Chrome Developer Console** (F12 -> Console tab) for the result.</p>
    <script>
        fetch('http://127.0.0.1:5000/mcp', {
            method: 'POST',
            headers: {
                'Content-Type': 'application/json',
                // The browser automatically adds the 'Origin' header based on where this HTML is served from (http://localhost:8000)
            },
            body: JSON.stringify({
                "jsonrpc": "2.0",
                "id": 1,
                "method": "tools/list"
            })
        })
        .then(response => {
            console.log('Success (but check console for CORS enforcement details):', response);
            return response.json();
        })
        .then(data => console.log('Data received (only if CORS passes):', data))
        .catch(error => console.error('Fetch Error:', error));
    </script>
</body>
</html>
```
2. Run `python3 -m http.server 8000`
3. Open `http://localhost:8000/malicious-client.html` in browser.
4. Tried without `--allowed-origins` flag -- success.
     Tried with `--allowed-origins=http://localhost:8000` -- success.
     Tried with `--allowed-origins=http://foo.com` -- unsuccessful.

7e6e88a21f feat(tool/Postgresql): Set default host and port for Postgresql source (#1927)
### Description

This pull request addresses issue #41 by implementing default connection
values for the Postgresql data source. When a user does not specify a
host or port, the connection will now automatically default to
`localhost:5432`.

---

### Detailed Changes

- **docs/en/reference/prebuilt-tools.md**
   -updated the env variables host and port to optional in the doc

- **internal/prebuiltconfigs/tools/postgres.yaml**
- Added the default values to host and port. Specifically, they are now
`host: ${POSTGRES_HOST:localhost}` and `port: ${POSTGRES_PORT:5432}`.
This allows the configuration loader to directly use `"localhost"` or
`"5432"` as a fallback if the `POSTGRES_HOST` or `POSTGRES_PORT`
environment variables are not set.

38d535de34 fix(source/cloud-sql-mssql): remove ip address field (#1822)

Removing the `ipAddress` field since it is not an input for Cloud SQL

Kept the variable in Source's config but removed this variable from

edca9dc7d7 feat(prebuilt/postgres): add postgres prebuilt tools (#1473)
## Description

- Adds a read-only PostgreSQL prebuilt tool
`list_autovacuum_configurations`, that returns the autovacuum
configurations name and corresponding settings from pg_settings view.
- Adds a read-only PostgreSQL prebuilt tool
`list_memory_configurations`, that returns the memory configurations
name and corresponding settings from `pg_settings` view.
- Adds a read-only PostgreSQL prebuilt tool `list_top_bloated_tables`,
that returns the top N tables based of dead tuple count. Each row
includes: `schema_name`, `relation_name`, `live_tuple`, `dead_tuple`,
`dead_tuple_percentage`, `last_vacuum`, `last_autovacuum`,
`last_analyze`, `last_autoanalyze`.
    - Parameters supported:
- `limit` (optional): Maximum numbers of results to return. Default: 50
- Adds a read-only PostgreSQL prebuilt tool `list_replication_slots`,
that returns the details of replication slots and WAL retained on it
Each row includes: `slot_name`, `slot_type`, `plugin`, `database`,
`temporary`, `active`, `restart_lsn`, `confirmed_flush_lsn`,
`catalog_min`, `retained_wal`.
- Adds a read-only PostgreSQL prebuilt tool `list_invalid_indexes`, that
returns the details of invalid indexes present in database. Each row
includes: `schema_name`, `index_name`, `table_name`, `index_size`,
`indisready`, `indisvalid`, `index_def`.
- Adds a read-only PostgreSQL prebuilt tool, `get_query_plan`, that
returns the optimizer’s estimated plan for a single SQL statement using
`EXPLAIN (FORMAT JSON)`—without executing the query. Output includes
node types, estimated rows, costs, width, and planner/JIT details when
available. Safe for production use in plan inspection, regression
checks, and query tuning workflows.

0cd3f16f87 feat(prebuilt/cloud-sql-mysql): Add env var support for IP Type (#1232) (#1347)
This PR fixes #1232 by allowing the `CLOUD_SQL_MYSQL_IP_TYPE`
environment variable to control the connection type for the
`cloud-sql-mysql` prebuilt tool, defaulting to "PUBLIC".

**Changes:**

* **`internal/prebuiltconfigs/tools/cloud-sql-mysql.yaml`:** Updated
`ipType` to use `${CLOUD_SQL_MYSQL_IP_TYPE:PUBLIC}`.
* **`internal/sources/cloudsqlmysql/cloud_sql_mysql.go`:** Removed
`validate:"required"` from the `IPType` field in the `Config` struct to
allow the default to be used when the env var is unset.
* **Documentation:** Updated relevant documentation to reflect the new
`CLOUD_SQL_MYSQL_IP_TYPE` environment variable usage.

**Testing:**

Built a local Docker image and tested on a GCE VM:

* Setting `CLOUD_SQL_MYSQL_IP_TYPE="private"` connects via Private IP.
* Setting `CLOUD_SQL_MYSQL_IP_TYPE="PUBLIC"` connects via Public IP.
* Leaving `CLOUD_SQL_MYSQL_IP_TYPE` unset defaults to Public IP.

All tests initialized the toolbox successfully.

nester-neo4j
f819e26443 feat(prebuiltconfig/neo4j): Add prebuiltconfig support for neo4j (#1352)
This pull request adds support and documentation for connecting Neo4j
databases using the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and the MCP Toolbox. It
introduces a new prebuilt configuration for Neo4j, updates documentation
to guide users through setup across multiple IDEs, and adds tests to
ensure the new configuration is loaded correctly.

**Neo4j MCP Integration:**

* Added a new prebuilt configuration file `neo4j.yaml` defining
`execute_cypher` and `schema` tools for Neo4j, with support for
environment-based configuration.
* Updated the documentation (`neo4j_mcp.md`) with step-by-step
instructions for connecting Neo4j to various IDEs (e.g., VS Code,
Cursor, Claude, Gemini) using MCP Toolbox.
* Expanded the reference documentation to include Neo4j, detailing
required environment variables, permissions, and available tools.

**Testing and Codebase Updates:**

* Updated test cases in `prebuiltconfigs_test.go` to include Neo4j in
the list of expected tool sources and verify the Neo4j configuration can
be fetched and loaded.

7651357d42 feat(tools/bigquery-ask-data-insights): add bigquery ask-data-insights tool (#932)
1. Add ask-data-insights tool based on conversational analytic API.
2. Add tokenSource for ask-data-insights tool, it uses access token
instead of client or restService.
3. Add a max row count to source, currently fixed to 50 and used only
for ask-data-insights tool. Later we may make it available for user to
make change and apply to bigquery-execute-sql and bigquery-sql to avoid
return too many data by accident.
