test: fix test isolation and assertion issues

- Add resetSystemEventsForTest() in beforeEach/afterEach
- Fix hardcoded status assertions (use toBeDefined + conditional checks)
- Prevents cross-test pollution of global system event queue

Addresses Greptile feedback on PR #15059
